Child & Youth Safety Policy
Statement
We work hard to provide an environment for spiritual growth in a context of healthy, positive relationships with adults. We take seriously our responsibility to shield our students from all forms of abuse, to protect our adult leaders from false accusations of all forms of abuse, and to limit the exposure of the church to legal risk and liability.
Policy
AB-506 Compliance

In compliance with Assembly Bill 506, all Horizon staff and volunteers that serve with children and youth have been live scan fingerprinted (background checked), completed Sexual Abuse Awareness Training, and Mandated Reporter Training. All trainings are completed through MinistrySafe.
Check In/Out System (Children's Ministry Only)

At Horizon, we use Church Center to check children in and out of Sunday school. With this system, parents will receive a unique tag that must be used to pick up their child, and each child's name tag will have their emergency contact as well as any food allergies. The first time you check your child in, we will ask for basic information (i.e. parent name, phone number, and email; food allergies; etc.)
Volunteer to Minor Ratios that Optimize Safety

Each classroom will contain an appropriate number of volunteers to keep both children/youth and the volunteers safe during church events. Both age of the children/youth and the number of children/youth in the classroom are taken into consideration. This includes adhering to a 2-volunteer policy whenever possible.
Volunteer Training & Approval Process

All of the children's and youth volunteers at Horizon go through a training process by the ministry directors. Before they are approved volunteers they are approved by both the ministry director and our pastors.
Volunteers that are unwilling to agree to this policy will be dismissed from their volunteer position.
